to dance, to train, to defy gravity, to reach beyond this dimension into another realm, to fly (ever higher), to soar above the barre, the stage, the world of civilians (down below). 

from the age of three to nineteen, i lived to dance—and danced to live. for me, there was nothing, no pain, no pleasure, that could keep me from a life lived in ballet. 

alas, injury conspired with the gods of dance and the demigods of creativity to rip my fingers from the barre.
